End-of-year donation deadlines
As we approach the end of the year, here are some important deadlines and reminders for the most common gift types to receive tax benefits for 2024 gifts.
Stock transfers
If you are planning to donate gifts of appreciated stock or securities, it is recommended that you initiate the transfer by Friday, Dec. 20. Please speak with your broker as early as possible to ensure delivery on or before Tuesday, Dec. 31. Credit cards
All credit card gifts must be made by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 in your time zone to be eligible for a 2024 tax deduction.
Checks
Checks sent through the US Postal Service must be dated and postmarked by Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024. Checks sent through FedEx or UPS must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)
QCDs that come directly from your IRA provider must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 31. If you write a check from your IRA that is intended to be a QCD, it must arrive at Carthage by Friday, Dec. 20 to allow full processing by Dec. 31.
